As Above, So Below

As Above, So Below

2015 John Natsoulas Gallery, Davis, CA Here, a series of paintings, responding to written text, are exhibited with quotes of the written text on mirrors below. The paintings reflected fully in the mirrors when the viewer stood directly in front of them.

The Root of Speech

The Root of Speech

2014 Panama Gallery, Sacramento, CA Video, Spoken Narration, Mirrors A video installation exploring the etymology of the words "speech", "understand", "listen", etc. was projected in a small room at Panama Arts Collective. Very quiet narration accompanied the piece. Viewers could walk around the mirrors on the floor.

Forgetting

Forgetting

2014 Solomon Dubnick Gallery, Sacramento, CA. Installation made of suspended wood with printed with a Van Dyke alternative process. The original prints were exhibited across the room in a large, silver book of poems that accompanied the images. This was a piece for my show entitled "Hard Rain" at the Solomon Dubnick Gallery.

Rubble

Rubble

2007 OK Centrum, Linz, Austria This was a weeklong exhibition that changed daily. The images on the floor were a combination of my own and photos of others from around the world: images of rubble and devastations of many kinds. Over the course of the week, the images were configured on the wall and eventually created an image, roughly, of sky and sea. The piece as then ripped off the wall as well. The piece explored our compulsive need to try to fight against the impermanence of things.

Iliad Memorial

Iliad Memorial

2009 Garden of Cybele, Kios, Greece Paper on stone My family's non-profit literary event production group, The Readers of Homer, produced an all-night reading of the Iliad with the locals on the Island of Chios, Homer's purported birthplace. The stone walls here were lined with the names of the dead in the book, the heroes mixed in with the more disposable characters.

Evidence Room

Evidence Room

Vermont Studio Center Johnson, VT As part of a weeklong, daily-changing exhibition, this room was called Evidence. In the bags were photos, all taken in hopes of processing the loss of my beloved sister to alcoholism.

Magic Hands

Magic Hands

2012 Panama Gallery Sacramento, CA This 14 minute video uses simple green screen technology to create magic tricks visible from a major street in downtown Sacramento. Extremely random images would appear on the 'magic cards' or 'magic balls.' The piece was meant simply to be playful and give a nod to the many delightful surprises in life.
